Introduction to Everest Base Camp Trekking
I hope by creating this blog it will help bring more tourists / trekkers-enthusiast to Nepal (somehow rebuilt Nepal’s tourism). It’s true that Nepal had been hit by a devastating and terrible earthquake on 25th April 2015, but this does not mean it’s still not safe to visit Nepal now.
If you still not convinced, check out this awesome blog post about “10 Reasons Why You Can Visit Nepal Even After The Earthquake: Help Nepal By Visiting”.
What drives me to do Everest Base Camp Trekking?
It all began when I had a dinner with my good buddy – Kent Lee November 2014. Out of suddenly, he told me that he’s going organize a trekking trip to Everest Base Camp (around 5300 meters) at Nepal and asked if I want to tag along.
Previously, my buddy Kent had already conquered Annapura Base Camp (ABC) in early 2014; I’m guessing his ABC trekking trip makes him wanted to go back conquering another higher base camp again.

Well, at first, I’m a little bit hesitated and worried that I might not be able to complete EBC trekking considering I’m not really a pro-active guy. But thanks to my girlfriend, she somewhat convinced me that this trekking trip will be my unforgettable moment in my life, so I finally agreed.
Why Everest Base Camp?
Few reasons that drives me to start this adventures:- Need to strike off one of my travel bucket list item.
- Explore UNESCO World Heritage sites, breathtaking and spectacular Himalayan vistas.
- Experience the exhilaration of reaching Everest Base Camp at 5300 meters above the sea.
- Disconnect from a busy-working-lifestyle and go back Nature.
- Lastly, you will never say no to the fresh air and companion of fun friends around, do you? :P
Pre-requisites
A lot of people (especially our dear organizer Kent) told me that I really need to have good-physically-condition at least 2 weeks before the ECB trekking starts. As you all know, trekking or hiking involves physical abilities to sustain few hours of endurance of carrying backpack bag while hiking on long, steep, and unrelenting mountain trails, not to mention the thin-air as you hikes to the higher ground. Therefore, a physical training is a must to help our body to metabolize available oxygen better while minimizing the potential effects of Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS) on high-altitude ground.
Trips Summary
Our group consists of 10 brave fellows including myself. All of us are from Singapore; however since we all are on budget we took Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kathmandu. Our trekking trip start from Khumbu (also known as Everest Region), which requires us again to take local flight to Lukla in the next morning.
In total, we have spent 16 days for whole trips from 27 March 2015 to 11 April 2015.
I will cover our itinerary in details in my next post.
Tour / Trek Guide Info
We engaged with one of the best trekking agency located in Kathmandu. This agency is Government licensed agency so they are properly insured and equipped. All our lodges and meals (lunch only) are covered in the price that they quote to us. We pay additional cost for porters to carry our heavy load.
Just for you information, if you are planning to trek up to Tengboche or Pangboche, then hiring a tour guide is optional. However, I strongly recommend you to hire trek guide and/or porter (good if the porter can act as guide too).
I will cover some tips about hiring local tour / trek guide and/or porters in my next post.
